About Sudha's
Some stores sell things. This one tells a story.
Sudha's Emporium started because Shanti Venugopal couldn't find what she was looking for in Corning — the globally inspired ingredients her family grew up with, the kind of thoughtful gifts that feel personal rather than purchased, the flavors that make a house feel like a home. So she built the store she wished existed.
You'll find it in the heart of the Gaffer District at 95 E Market Street — a warm, carefully chosen collection of gourmet foods, gifts, and home goods that celebrate flavor, culture, and the people we feed.
Our Story
Sudha’s Emporium was born from a lifelong dream and a deeply personal journey. After moving from New Jersey to Corning, NY, Shanti Venugopal and her husband often traveled long distances just to find their favorite ingredients or culturally rooted gifts. Family visits were filled with homemade meals, but access to these beloved items was limited locally.
After the birth of her second child, Shanti followed her heart and opened a space that celebrates food, culture, beauty, and hospitality — all in one.
Why “Sudha’s”?
Sudha’s Emporium is named in honor of Shanti’s mother, Sudha, who passed away in December 2020. Sudha was a talented cook and a woman who created beautiful, welcoming spaces. Her love for flavor, family, and décor lives on in the store’s collections.

Meet Our Founder
Shanti Venugopal grew up in a home where the kitchen was the center of everything. Her Indian-American heritage, her love of entertaining, and a deep belief that food is one of the most generous things you can offer someone — these are the things that shaped this store.
Every product here was chosen by Shanti personally. If it's on the shelf, she believed in it.
